Getting to Know Me

The name of this page is such a misnomer since in reality you won’t just be getting to know me, but my hubby Larry and son Joey as well.  And the additional bit players who make up the remainder of my days – my mom, sister, in-laws, friends and assorted relatives.

First, let me introduce myself.  My name is Malana and I’m 49 years old and loving my life.  I’m married to my sweetheart Larry and have one beautiful son, Joseph Logan, who is 7 and the light of my life. I love to laugh, spend time with my family, go on adventures big and small, and look for the simple pleasures that, well, make my life so pleasurable.  I have held one job or another since I was 10 years old up until I turned 35 when I had to go on disability due to chronic pain from Fibromyalgia and other miscellaneous health issues.  I thought it a curse and in retrospect now realize it’s been one of my biggest blessings.  Being on disability caused me to relocate, to meet my husband, to give birth to the light of my life and be fortunate enough to get to spend quality time with him day in and day out.  It’s afforded me the opportunity to make some really great friends who also have the role of being “Mom” and helped me to learn it’s all a matter of perspective.  I love to write, take photo’s, camp, read (and read some more), cook and hang out with my family and friends.

My hubby is a big kid himself.  He currently works for RagingWire doing hardware work for them on all the servers they maintain for various companies. He recently earned his AA with an online degree from Ashland University and is planning on pursuing his BA in the very near future.  He loves to laugh also, is into motorcycles and mead making and all things geeky, and loves going on adventures with Joey and I.  He is an awesome father, and a pretty dog gone good husband – most of the time (wink, wink).

Joey is seven and the center of both our universes.  He’s in 2nd grade this year and is loving it mostly.  He loves nothing better than to do all things geeky with his Dad and to spend time with me, his favorite person in the whole world.  I did say I was blessed.  He’s into computer games, riding with his Dad on the motorcycle, reading, Cub Scouts, baseball and camping.  Most of his best friends are a year or two older but he doesn’t seem to have a problem keeping up with them. And he’s blessed to have two super good friends in his class that he loves to hang out with at recesses.

My mom passed away at age 75 a couple of years ago on April Fool’s day – guess you could say she had the last laugh which is right in line with the character she was.  I was blessed and cursed to care for her the last dozen or so years of her life. There is not a day that goes by that I don’t think of her, laugh at the memories and thank her for all the wisdom that she passed along to me.

So in a nutshell that’s our family, plus three dogs – Duke who is a Rat Terrier mix; Hoss who’s a Red German Shepard; and Harley our newest edition who is a mixture of Deerhead Chihuahua and Miniature Pincher. We also have one cat – Wonka who is Joey’s cat and is 2 1/2 years old. We’ve lost three others this year to the coyotes we think which has made me put a ban on getting any more as they always manage to figure out how to use the doggie door and then my and Joey’s hearts get broken when they don’t return. Wonka though really is the very definition of a tom cat who comes and goes all day long and always has dirt or grease in his hair and is so tough I don’t think anyone is willing to mess with him.  He just fathered a litter with one of my neighbors cats and so we will be adding one of his sons to our household in the very near future.  We’ve picked him out, his name currently is Mojo and I think we’ll be keeping that as his name.  We also have two fat-tailed Gecko’s named Diamond and Ruby.  And our most recent addition is Tallulah, our rescued mini lop bunny.  We’re a rag taggly bunch, but they’re my bunch and I wouldn’t have it any other way.
