Getting to Know Me

The name of this page is such a misnomer since in reality you won’t just be getting to know me, but my son Joey as well.  And the additional bit players who make up the remainder of my days – sisters, friends and assorted relatives.

First, let me introduce myself.  My name is Malana and I’m 52 years old (or young depending on the day) and loving my life.  I have one beautiful son, Joseph Logan, who is 11 and the light of my life. I love to laugh, spend time with my family, go on adventures big and small, and look for the simple pleasures that, well, make my life so pleasurable.  I have held one job or another since I was 10 years old up until I turned 35 when I had to go on disability due to chronic pain from Fibromyalgia and other miscellaneous health issues.  I thought it a curse and in retrospect now realize it’s been one of my biggest blessings.  Being on disability caused me to relocate, to meet the father of my son, to give birth to the light of my life and be fortunate enough to get to spend quality time with him day in and day out.  It’s afforded me the opportunity to make some really great friends who also have the role of being “Mom” and helped me to learn it’s all a matter of perspective.  I love to write, take photo’s, camp, read (and read some more), cook and hang out with my family and friends.

Joey is eleven and the center of universe.  He’s in 5th grade this year and is loving it mostly except when he’s referring to it as jail.  He loves nothing better than to do gaming with his buddies, play sports, and to spend time with me, his favorite person in the whole world.  I did say I was blessed.  He’s into computer games, sports – baseball, basketball, and football, camping  and road adventures.  Most of his best friends are a year or two older but he doesn’t seem to have a problem keeping up with them. And he’s blessed to have good friends in his class that he loves to hang out with at recess as well as on the sports field.

My mom passed away at age 75 several years ago on April Fool’s day – guess you could say she had the last laugh which is right in line with the character she was.  I was blessed and cursed to care for her the last dozen or so years of her life. There is not a day that goes by that I don’t think of her, laugh at the memories and thank her for all the wisdom that she passed along to me.

With our relocation to Southern Ohio from California in 2017 I now get to be closer to my sister Crystal and her husband Jeff and am getting to know my step sister Cheryl too.  Both are huge blessings.

So in a nutshell that’s our family, plus three dogs – Duke who is a Rat Terrier mix; Buddah who is a Bernese Mountain; and Harley who is a mixture of Deerhead Chihuahua and Miniature Pincher.  We also have part time care of my ex’s dog Tank who is an English Bulldog.  We have three cats – Zeus who is about 4 years old that we adopted as soon as we arrived in Ohio, and Gizmo and Rocky who are both rescues found on the streets and who are under one years old. I also own two snakes – Ruby and Emma but we are in the process of rehoming them hopefully with our local college.  We are a rag taggly bunch, but they’re my bunch and I wouldn’t have it any other way.
